Athens College HAEF
What do you get when you put more than 10,000 plants on a 2,500 sqm green roof? This awesome project!
Today we’re traveling to the suburb of Psychiko where Athens College HAEF fulfills its educational mission beneath the sustainable and innovative green roof.
Owned by the Hellenic American Educational Foundation, this transformative project, implemented in 2014, was a collaboration between the Alexandros Samaras & Associates and Sgoutas Architects.
The architectural design was complemented by the George Ε. Mathioudakis, a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer who designed the remarkable green roof.
Stretching over approximately 2,500 square meters, the green roof at Athens College is a pioneering venture as it’s the largest green-roof school building in Greece. Notably, it received the Platinum LEED, the highest distinction in its category, making it the FIRST building in Greece to achieve this feat.
